Winter Wreath
The winter wreath is a plotter and upcycling project. Below you can download the free plotter templates. The project is suitable for plotter beginners (I'm a beginner myself!).
Miom visits Plottertante
On November 9th, 2023 I was a guest of "Plottertante" Miriam presenting the winter wreath. We were crafting together and I learned a lot about plotting from Miriam. You can watch the recording of the shop here on Miriam's YouTube-Channel. (in German language) |
May I introduce? The winter wreath!
The winter wreath consists of many individual parts that you glue together to form a wreath. Simply use the elements that you like and put as many pieces together as you want.
You can use the wreath as a door wreath, as a table decoration or as a picture in a picture frame. I have a few ideas for you below.
I cut my first wreath out of old cardboard boxes. Then I started experimenting with foil: first as a finishing touch to a cardboard wreath, then just foil as a picture and as decoration for a tray. You can find photos of it below.
Make your own individual wreath or use the individual elements for additional Advent decorations or Christmas cards!

Instructions
Basic
You need:
cardboard
Glue
optional foil as desired
and a plotter
1. Collect cardboard! The idea of the wreath came about as an upcycling project: use cornflakes packets, tissue boxes, mailing bags and so on. If one side is printed: no matter! Simply use the unprinted back. Elements made from different cardboard boxes with different colors give your wreath more visual depth.
Optional: You can also cover all or individual cardboard pieces with foil to refine your wreath.
2. Download the plotter file and cut out the elements you want to use in the desired number and in any size with your plotter.
3. If you are using mushrooms, anise stars, and pine cones, glue their pieces together first. Pine cones and mushrooms have three layers, anise stars have two layers. In the photos you can see how the individual parts fit together.
You can make the wreath with or without the Merry Christmas lettering in the middle. Without lettering, the winter wreath also passes as an autumn wreath!
4. . I always put the elements on the wreath without glue first until I'm happy with them. Then I place the pieces from the top to the bottom layer around the wreath - right next to the place where I want to glue them later.
5. First you glue the leaves on the wreath and finally anise stars, cones and mushrooms.
Inspiration
Idea #1
To embellish the wreath, I cut out individual elements on cardboard covered with vinyl foil. To do this, simply stick foil to a piece of cardboard before plotting.
Idea #2
Cut the elements out of self-adhesive vinyl film and either stick them on a piece of cardboard. Then you get a beautiful, Christmas-like picture. Or you can decorate things with the shapes - like the tray that I decorated with a wreath. You can see photos of the images and tray below.
Idee #3
Use semi-transparent, self-adhesive foil and decorate a window or a glass frame with the Christmas wreath.
If you plot the wreath out of a semi-transparent film, you can turn it into a window picture! Because it's easier to photograph, I used a (double) glass frame and decorated the whole thing with dried flowers and golden metal foil flakes. This also looks really nice as a window picture!
