Deckle edges
- Posted on
Paper can be torn instead of cut. The look of the uneven edges is reminiscent of handmade paper.
For tearing paper, a metal ruler is recommended . If you have a plastic ruler at home, try using that before purchasing a metal ruler.
Otherwise, you will find rulers made of aluminum here.
The ruler should be longer than the edge to be torn.
To tear an edge, place the ruler on the desired paper. The ruler lies within the edge on your text page.
Tip: If you are tearing along a pre-printed line, position the ruler approx. 2 mm inside this line. If you tear too close to the pre-printed line, it may still be visible at the edge.
Then tear the paper along the edge from top to bottom. Right-handed people place the ruler to the left of the line to be torn and pull the paper towards the bottom left. Left-handed people place the ruler to the right of the edge to be torn and pull the paper towards the bottom right.
Repeat the process on all sides.
