Winter wreath

Winterkranz

The winter wreath is a cutting machine and upcycling decoration project. You can download the free cutting files below. The project is suitable for beginners to cutting machines.

The Winter Wreath

The winter wreath consists of any number of individual parts that you glue together to form a wreath. Simply use the elements you like and combine as many individual parts as you want.

You can use the wreath as a door wreath, as table decor, or as a picture in a frame. I have included a few ideas for you below.

I cut my first wreath out of old cardboard boxes only. Then I started experimenting with foil: first as a finish for the cardboard wreath, then using just the foil as a picture and as decoration for a tray. You can find photos of this further down.

Create your own individual wreath or use the individual elements for other Advent decorations or Christmas cards.

Instructions

You will need:
Cardboard
Glue
and a cutting machine
I use an SDX 1550 cutting machine from brother[Affiliate Link*]

1. Collect cardboard!
The idea for the wreath came about as an upcycling project: use cereal boxes, tissue boxes, shipping envelopes, and so on. If one side is printed: it doesn't matter! Simply use the unprinted side. Elements from various cardboard boxes with different shades will give your wreath more visual depth.

2. Download the cutting file and use your machine to cut out the elements you want to use in the desired quantity and size.

3. If you are using mushrooms, star anise, and pinecones, glue their individual parts together first. Pinecones and mushrooms consist of three layers; star anise have two layers. You can see from the photos how the individual parts fit together.
You can make the wreath with or without the "Merry Christmas" lettering in the center. Without the lettering, the winter wreath also works as an autumn wreath!

4. I always lay out the elements on the wreath without glue first until I am happy with them. Then, I arrange the parts in order from the top layer to the bottom layer around the wreath—right next to the spot where I want to glue them down later.

5. First, glue the leaves onto the wreath, and finally, the star anise, pinecones, and mushrooms.

Miom visiting Plottertante

In the winter of 2023, I was a guest at "Plottertante" with the winter wreath. We crafted together and I learned a lot from Miriam about the topic of plotting. You can watch the recording of the live stream here on Miriam's YouTube channel .

Enjoy crafting!
